Sonic Forge is a small browser workbench for routine listening, recording, and audio-preparation tasks. These answers explain what to expect before you open a tool.

Do I need an account to use an audio tool?

No. Public tools are available without registration. A browser may ask for microphone permission when you choose a feature that records or measures sound; permission can be changed later in your browser settings.

Are recordings uploaded to a server?

Where a tool supports local browser processing, recordings and selected files are handled in the browser. Review the note on the individual tool page before using sensitive material, and avoid using shared devices for private audio.

Why can’t I hear a tone or use the microphone?

Check the device volume, browser permission, selected input or output device, and whether another application is already using the microphone. Mobile browsers and managed work devices may impose additional restrictions.

Can I use a tone generator to test hearing or equipment safety?

No. Tone and volume tools are general listening references, not hearing tests or calibrated measurement equipment. Start at a low volume, stop if sound is uncomfortable, and use qualified equipment or a professional when an accurate measurement matters.

Why does an edit or waveform look different from another app?

Audio software can use different sample rates, channel handling, compression, visual scaling, and rounding. Treat the result as a quick working reference and keep the original file if the recording is important.

How do I report a problem?

Send the tool name, browser, device type, and a non-sensitive description of the issue through the contact page. Do not email private recordings or audio that you do not have permission to share.
